THE EYE
The eye is a very delicate part of the body. It should be treated with care since it contributes to one’s personality and appearance. It is the light of the body.
STRUCTURE OF THE EYE
The eye is made up of different parts. Each part performs a special function. An understanding of the different parts of the eye will help one to take good care of it.
| PARTS OF THE EYE | FUNCTIONS |
1 | The cornea | It is the clear part of the eye which lets in light. It keeps bits of dust and dirt from entering the pupil |
2 | The iris | It is the coloured part of the eye that controls the amount of light entering the eye ball |
3 | The lens | Is a glass-like part of the eye. It focuses light on the back of the eye ball (retina) |
4 | The retina | Is a light sensitive spot where image is formed through the cornea |
5 | Optic Nerve | Is the sensory organ which goes from the brain to the eye ball. |
6 | Eye Lids | Keeps out dirt and dust from entering the eye. |
7 | Tear Gland | It keeps the cornea from getting dusty and dirty by secreting liquid called ‘tear’ to keep it moist |
8 | Eye Lashes | It protects the eye from foreign bodies |
9 | The pupil | It is the hole in front of the eye ball through which light rays pass into the eye. |

- Alternatively, dip the eye in a clean bowl of water to flush the foreign body from the eye
